Now that you have taken a week or so to decide what you want in your life, it is time to write your goals down; preferably in a notebook or journal but it will work just as well on a scratch piece of paper, post-it note, napkin…anything that is legible! This is the exciting part!
This is where the magic begins, where you start to realize the power of your own mind.
People, trust me. This really works!
I have 18 years of written goals that are documented proof. After all these years it is still mind blowing to me that something as simple as the act of writing it down can be so effective.
The big question: Why is writing down your goals so effective?
The act of writing down your goals engages three modalities, your manner of learning, giving you three times the reinforcement. Our learning modalities are the sensory channels through which a person gives, receives and stores information.
Some people are visual learners (seeing), some are auditory learners (hearing), some are tactile/kinesthetic learners (feeling, touching movement) and some are a mix of the modalities.
- 25-30% of the population are Visual Learners
- 25-30% of the population are Auditory Learners
- 15% of the population are Tactile/Kinesthetic Learners
- 25-30% of the population are Mixed Modality Learners
When you “write” you see the words (vision), sub-vocalize the words (auditory – thinking in your head) and you feel the writing instrument and have movement (tactile/kinesthetic).
Writing goals activates your RAS (Reticular Activating System) – your brain’s own internal GPS. Your subconscious mind will have clear direction and immediately start going to work to recognize and introduce opportunities that align with your goals.
No matter how you look at it – you have a 75% better chance of achieving your goals just by writing them down.
Start today – write down ten small goals! Commit them to paper…WRITE ON!
THINK IT! INK IT! MAKE IT HAPPEN!
May all your goals matter
